Behaviour Consultation

Behavioural concerns such as anxiety, fear, reactivity and frustration can be complex, and many people aren’t sure whether their dog needs veterinary behavioural support. The reassuring part is that medication is only one small part of what we do, and most cases focus heavily on understanding the underlying emotions and building a practical, structured plan for change.

A veterinary behavioural medicine approach looks at the whole picture - medical health, environment, learning history and emotional wellbeing, to understand why the behaviour is occurring. Your initial consultation is a comprehensive assessment of your dog’s behavioural history, medical background, training experience, diet and lifestyle, which allows us to develop a tailored treatment plan. This may include behavioural modification strategies to work alongside your trainer, management strategies to reduce risk and prevent escalation, environmental and lifestyle adjustments, and medication where appropriate to reduce underlying anxiety or arousal and support learning.

Most dogs benefit from follow-up consultations so the plan can be refined and adjusted over time. If you don’t currently have a trainer, recommendations can be provided based on your dog’s needs and your location.

In-person consultations are preferred where possible so your dog can be assessed in the most complete way, with telehealth available depending on suitability. You can book your initial consultation below without a referral.
